IT Outage vs Numeracy Outrage?

This note in a Greggs store during last month’s IT outages caught our eye. Amusing but it also underscores a serious issue regarding basic numeracy.


The responses to last month’s IT outages that plagued payments systems at outlets of Greggs, McDonalds, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, ranged from stepping up cyber security to discussions about third-party IT systems. But what about individual skills?


An individual’s numeracy skills come into their own in situations like these and can only aid what must have been a terse customer experience. If there was ever a reason to invest in numeracy skills, this IT outage surely adds to the case.
